Umrah package cancellation and refund policies
The short answer. Get the terms in writing before you pay, not when you need them. Parts of an Umrah package are spent on your behalf early, the visa filing, the hotel deposit and often the ticket, so not all of it is recoverable. What separates a good agency from a bad one is not a generous policy, it is a clear one, handed over at the start.

Our own terms are published on the cancellation and refunds page rather than produced on request. This page is about reading anybody's.
Why an Umrah is not fully refundable
- The visa is lodged through an attested operator, and that work is done once
it is done.
- Hotel rooms are held with deposits, which become harder to recover as the
dates approach, and in Ramadan much harder.
- Flights are often ticketed early, after which the airline's rules apply
rather than the agency's.
So "I cancelled a month before, surely I get everything back" is usually not how it works, and an agency promising a full refund close to departure in a busy season is making a promise somebody will have to break.
The nine questions
Settle all of these in writing before you pay:
- What is refundable at each stage, by date or by closeness to departure?
- What is never refundable, and why?
- Is the deposit refundable at all?
- Who bears the airline's charge if the ticket is issued?
- What happens if the visa is refused? This is the one people never ask and
most want answered.
- What happens if the agency cancels or the group does not go?
- How long does a refund take once agreed?
- Can the booking be transferred to another person?
- What if one person in a family cancels but the rest travel? With a family
in one room this changes the per-person price, and it should be written down.
An agency that answers all nine in one message has thought about it. One that answers with reassurance has not.
The questions behind the questions
"What if somebody falls ill?" The commonest real reason a booking is cancelled. Ask specifically; answers differ.
"What if my dates slip?" Changing is not the same as cancelling, and the charge is usually different. Ask about both.
"What if the vaccination timing goes wrong?" The one with the waiting period catches people out, and the honest answer depends on how far ahead it is discovered. Umrah health and vaccination requirements.
Ramadan is stricter, and that is not unfair
In the busy seasons, rooms are held at a premium and are hard to release. Terms for Ramadan and the school holidays are usually tighter than for a quiet month, and an agency saying so up front is being straight with you rather than difficult.
Read it before you need it
Almost everybody reads a cancellation policy on the day it applies, which is the day nothing can be negotiated. Ten minutes at the start is the whole protection.
Keep the message. Terms explained on the phone and never written down are not terms.
Where this sits among the other checks
A clear policy is one of the strongest signs an agency is real, because it is what somebody with nothing behind them is least willing to put in writing. It belongs beside the company checks:
Ours
Our terms are on the cancellation and refunds page and we give them with the package rather than waiting to be asked. If anything there is unclear, ask us what it means for your specific booking before you pay a rupee. Our departures are on the Umrah packages page.
