Umrah health and vaccination requirements
The short answer. Two vaccinations are mandatory for Umrah from Pakistan and one of them has a waiting period before you may travel. That single fact decides more Umrah dates than anything else, because it cannot be shortened by any agency. Start it the week you decide to go, before you choose a package. Everything else, medicines, a doctor's opinion, the heat, is preparation rather than requirement.

We will not print a list of vaccine names and dose intervals here. Requirements are set by the Saudi authorities and administered through Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs, they are revised, and a list copied from a website is how people arrive with the wrong record. Ask us, or your organiser, what is being required this season, and we will tell you in writing.
What does not change is the shape of the problem, which is what this page is for.
The waiting period is the whole point
Of the two mandatory vaccinations, one must be given a set number of days before travel. That means:
- It belongs at the start of your planning, not the end.
- It is the reason somebody with four weeks' notice cannot always travel on the
dates they want.
- No agency, including us, can waive it or speed it up. An agency that says it can
is telling you something important about itself.
People leave it until the package is booked, the leave is approved and the flights are chosen, and then discover that the dates do not work. Start it first, then choose dates around it.
What to do, in order
- Ask what is required this season, in writing, from your organiser or the
Ministry.
- Get the one with the waiting period done immediately.
- Keep the record safe, and photograph it. It travels with the file.
- Choose your dates once you know when you are clear to travel.
The full sequence for the whole trip is in the Umrah preparation checklist.
Beyond the requirements
None of this is required by anybody, and all of it decides how the trip goes.
See your doctor if you have a long term condition. Diabetes, heart, blood pressure, anything needing regular medication. Ask for:
- Enough medicine for the whole journey plus a clear margin.
- The generic names written down, because a Pakistani brand name is not always
recognised at a pharmacy in Makkah.
- A short written summary of conditions and medicines, in English.
Carry medicines in hand luggage, never in the checked bag.
Plan for the heat. It is not the heat of Karachi. Water, the cooler hours when you have the choice, and a hat.
Expect more walking than you do at home, even on a short Umrah.
The first day. Most flights from Pakistan land in the small hours. Going straight to the Haram after twenty hours awake is how people lose the next two days, and it is the commonest health mistake we see that has nothing to do with illness.
For an older pilgrim
Allow longer for everything above, and ask the doctor directly about the walking and the heat rather than only about the vaccinations.
A pill organiser filled at home, the prescription photographed, and a card in each pocket with the hotel name in Arabic and two numbers on it, matter more in practice than anything else on this page.
More in Umrah for elderly pilgrims.
If somebody falls ill while you are there
Tell your group leader early rather than waiting to see. Pharmacies are close and good, and the thing that makes a small problem into a large one is a family trying to manage it alone for two days.
This is also the practical reason to ask, before booking, whether there is somebody from the agency in Makkah and whether the Pakistan number is answered at night. The checks are in how to verify an Umrah travel agency.
Ask us for this season's list
Send us your dates and we will tell you exactly what is being required now, which item has the waiting period, and whether your dates are realistic once it is accounted for. Our departures are on the Umrah packages page.
