How to avoid Umrah scams when booking from Pakistan
The short answer. Pay the registered company, never a person. Get the hotel name, the distance and the excluded list in writing before any money moves. Ask who lodges the visa and get a straight answer. And be most careful in the two seasons when people pay deposits early, Ramadan and the school holidays, because that is when the money sits with somebody for months.

Umrah fraud looks different from Hajj fraud. There is no quota to pretend to have access to, so almost nothing here is about seats. It is about money held for months, a visa that was never filed, and a hotel that was never the hotel.
We sell Umrah, so read this knowing who wrote it. We also take the calls after it has gone wrong, which is the reason it is written at all.
The patterns
The visa nobody filed. A Pakistani passport holder cannot lodge an Umrah visa alone; it goes through an operator attested by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Nusuk will not take an individual application. So a seller can take money for weeks without ever starting anything, and you will not know until the dates are close. Ask early and directly: has the visa been lodged, and who lodged it?
The hotel that moves. A well-known building is named in the conversation and something else entirely is booked. This one is nearly always preventable: get the hotel by name in writing, and the booking reference where one exists.
The deposit that holds your season. Ramadan and the school holidays are paid for months ahead. A deposit taken in good faith is normal; a deposit with nothing in writing, to a personal account, with the hotel "to be confirmed", is how a season disappears.
The price that grows. A low headline, then the Makkah to Madinah transport, then Ziyarat, then a meal plan, then a "processing fee" once you are committed. The protection is the excluded list in writing, which costs nothing to ask for.
The agency that exists only in season. A page, a number, strong reviews that all appeared in one month. Ask how long the company has existed, not the page, and ask for a family who travelled last month. Umrah runs all year, so there is always one.
The group rate that needs your passport today. Urgency plus a request for documents plus no paperwork is the combination to stop at.
Four rules that stop nearly all of it
- The money goes to the registered company's account, against a receipt. Never
to a person, never to a name that does not match the company.
- **Nothing is paid before the hotel name, the distance, the dates, the excluded
list and the cancellation terms are in writing.**
- Ask who lodges the visa. They either file it or they hand your file to
somebody who does. Both are fine; vagueness is not.
- Verify the company before the first rupee. It takes ten minutes and the steps
are in
how to verify an Umrah travel agency.
Two things that are not scams
Worth saying, because fear makes people suspicious of the wrong things.
A deposit is normal. Hotels and seats are held with money. What matters is what is written down beside it.
A cheap package is not automatically fraud. It is cheap somewhere: the distance, the room occupancy, the flight. Find out where, and it may be exactly the right trade for you. We have set out how to read that in how to choose an Umrah travel agency.
If you think it has already happened
Hours matter.
- Stop paying. Do not send more to "release" anything.
- Save everything. The whole conversation, receipts, transfer references, the
advertisement, any document they sent.
- Tell your bank at once. Only a very recent transfer is ever recoverable.
- Report it. The FIA's cybercrime wing handles online fraud. Where a registered
agency is involved, the Department of Tourist Services and the Ministry of
Religious Affairs should be told.
- Then get a straight answer on the dates. Depending on how close they are,
something may still be possible. Come and ask. We will tell you honestly if it is
not.
The part people find hardest
Most of those taken were dealing with somebody they or their family knew. The checks above are not an accusation, and nobody reputable is offended by them. Make the question routine and it stops being awkward.
Ask us for the registered company name, the Department of Tourist Services number and who files the visa. You will get all three in one message, and our certificates are photographed on the contact page. Our departures, with what each price includes and excludes, are on the Umrah packages page.
