The Umrah visa from Pakistan, and why you cannot apply for it yourself
Most people who ask us about the Umrah visa have already tried to do it themselves, found the Nusuk app, and got stuck. There is a reason for that, and it is not a mistake on your part.
Here is what the visa actually needs, and where the wall is.
The wall: Pakistan is not on the eVisa list
Saudi Arabia lets citizens of a number of countries apply for an Umrah visa directly through Nusuk, its own platform. Pakistan is not currently among them.
For a Pakistani passport holder, the Umrah visa is issued through a tour operator attested by Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs. That is not a company policy, ours or anybody's; it is how the route is structured. You will not find a way around it, and any offer to sell you a "direct" Umrah visa from Pakistan deserves a very hard second look.
The practical consequence: the first real decision you make is not the hotel. It is which attested operator you hand your passport to.
What you need in hand
Your passport, with at least six months' validity from the date you intend to arrive, and two blank pages.
Your CNIC.
A digital photograph that meets the Saudi specification. This trips people up more than anything else on the list. It is not a casual phone photo; the background, the framing and the file itself all have requirements, and a photo that fails is the most common cause of a delayed application.
Your vaccination certificates. See below, because this part is not optional and not always known.
A confirmed return ticket and a hotel booking, which are needed for the visa to be finalised. This is why visa and package are usually arranged together rather than separately.
The vaccinations, which are mandatory
Two matter, and both are requirements rather than recommendations.
Meningococcal ACYW. An accepted ACYW vaccine, taken at least ten days before you arrive. Ten days. If you are planning a trip three days from now and have not had it, that is the thing that stops you, not the visa.
Polio. Pakistan sits in the group of countries for which a dose of oral (bOPV) or inactivated (IPV) polio vaccine is required before travel, regardless of your age and regardless of what you were given as a child. People are caught out by this one constantly.
Get both early. The ten day rule alone means vaccination should be among the first things you do, not the last.
How long it takes
Once the documents are complete and correct, the visa itself is usually issued in one to three working days.
The word doing the work in that sentence is "complete". The delays families experience are almost never the Saudi side being slow; they are a photograph that failed, a passport with five months left on it, or a vaccination card missing the one that had to be ten days ago.
A sensible order to do this in
- Check your passport's expiry today. Six months from your travel date, not
from now.
- Get the ACYW and polio vaccinations. Everything else can wait; these cannot.
- Choose an attested operator, and check the attestation yourself against the
Ministry's published list.
- Get the photograph taken to the Saudi specification, not a general one.
- Fix your dates so the flight and hotel can be confirmed.
- Hand everything over in one go. Applications that arrive complete are the
ones that come back in days.
Rules change, so check the source
Visa routes, eVisa eligibility and health requirements are set by Saudi Arabia and by Pakistan's Ministry, and they do change between seasons. Nothing on this page, or on any agency's page, should be the last thing you check. Confirm against the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the official Saudi guidance before you rely on it.
