How far in advance should I book Umrah?
The short answer. It depends entirely on when you want to go. For Ramadan and the school holidays, as early as you can, because what runs out is the close hotels rather than the seats. For a quiet month, far less notice is needed and you will get a better hotel for the same money. Whatever your dates, the vaccination with a waiting period must start first.

Unlike Hajj, Umrah has no quota and no allocation. Nobody is waiting for a seat. That changes the timing question completely: you are not racing other pilgrims for a place, you are competing for hotel rooms close to the Haram in the weeks everybody wants.
The seasons, and what each needs
Ramadan, and especially the last ten nights. The most crowded and most expensive period of the year by a wide margin. Book as far ahead as you can manage. Waiting does not save money here; it costs you the hotel distance, which is the thing that actually decides the trip.
School holidays. Busy and dearer for the same reason: everybody with children is travelling in the same fortnight.
A quiet month. Much shorter notice is workable. The same city, far fewer people, and a hotel you could not otherwise afford.
If your dates are flexible at all, that flexibility is worth more than any discount. Moving by a fortnight can change which hotel you can afford, and the hotel distance is the single largest factor in whether an Umrah is enjoyable.
What early buys, and what it does not
It buys: the close hotel, the room configuration your family needs, a direct flight at a civil hour, and time to fix a document problem without panic.
It does not usually buy: a meaningfully lower headline price in a quiet month. Outside the busy seasons, booking six months ahead rather than six weeks ahead changes less than people expect.
The one thing that must start first
The vaccination with a waiting period. Two are mandatory and one of them cannot be done at the last minute. No agency can shorten it, and discovering it late is the most common reason somebody loses the dates they wanted.
Start it the week you decide, before you have chosen a package or even a month.
And check the passport expiry today, which costs nothing and prevents the other common delay.
Both are at the top of the Umrah preparation checklist for that reason.
With children or an older parent
Book earlier than you otherwise would, because what you are buying is the short walk to the Haram, and in the busy seasons the close buildings go first. A family that books late in Ramadan ends up with the distance, and the distance is what makes or breaks the trip for a grandparent.
More in Umrah for families and Umrah for elderly pilgrims.
Booking late is not a disaster
If your dates are close and the month is quiet, there is usually something good available, and we will tell you what. If your dates are close and it is Ramadan, be prepared for a longer walk or a different week.
What late does not change is the visa itself, provided your documents are in order and the vaccination has been done in time. That last clause is the one that catches people.
Ask with your dates
Send us the month you have in mind and how many of you there are, and we will tell you what is realistic for those dates, what moving them by a fortnight would buy, and whether anything in your file needs to start today. Our departures are on the Umrah packages page.
